What is Maggam Work?

Maggam work, also known as Zardosi, is a traditional form of hand embroidery that originated in royal courts of India. The word "Maggam" comes from Telugu, meaning "loom" or "frame."
This intricate art form involves creating elaborate designs using metallic threads, beads, sequins, stones, and pearls. Each piece is meticulously hand-stitched by skilled artisans who have mastered this craft through generations of practice.
Maggam embroidery is particularly popular in South Indian bridal wear, adorning saree blouses, lehengas, and dupattas with stunning three-dimensional patterns that catch light beautifully. The work can take anywhere from days to months, depending on the complexity and detail of the design.
